By looking at a single termite, it certainly doesn’t look dangerous or menacing, but a whole colony of them can inflict serious structural damage on a home in a fairly short period of time. Termites are known as “silent destroyers” because of their ability to chew through wood, flooring and even wallpaper undetected. Each year, termites cause about $5 billion in property damage.

Termites cause billions of dollars in damage each year in the U.S. They primarily feed on wood, but also damage paper, books, insulation, and even swimming pool liners and filtration systems.Besides the monetary impact, thousands of winged termites emerging inside one's home are an emotionally trying experience — not to mention the thought of termites silently feasting on one's largest investment.

Although termites are named white ants, they are actually quite different in eating habits and ecology from ants, and are rather a member of the cockroach family.Ants are social insects centered on the queen, while termites are social insects centered on the queen and king pair.

On the afternoon of 6 June 2021, Professor Mo from the Institute of Insect Science, Zhejiang University hosted a fly-free community presentation. Professor Mo held an interactive discussion with the participants on mosquito and fly eradication in green facilities, sewers, basements and other places in the community.
